Overview

This information sheet provides resources to assist individuals and families who may be struggling with covering housing costs for people who both rent or own their home.

  • Mortgage and Foreclosure Assistance

    Pennsylvania has numerous programs that will help families with paying their mortgage and avoid foreclosure.

    Your local county may offer resources, or they may partner with non-profits to provide assistance. The Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) Phone: 717-780-3800

    Homeowners’ Emergency Mortgage Assistance Program (HEMAP) Phone: 800-322-7572

  • Homeless Assistance Program (HAP)

    The Pennsylvania Homeless Assistance Program (HAP) helps to assure that homelessness is avoided, that anyone who is homeless finds needed refuge and care, and that residents are assisted in moving toward self-sufficiency. Homeless Assistance Program Services include: rent assistance, bridge housing, cash grants for help paying rent, case management, and emergency shelter. Contact County Homeless Assistance Program

  • Rental Subsidies and Vouchers

    Very low income families can receive help from HUD and Public Housing Authorities (PHA) in Pennsylvania. Section 8 and other resources for paying rent are for seniors, low income residents, and the disabled. Contact Your Area Housing Authority
