What I've Been Working On: Living Independently

Posted on

Welcome back! In this blog, I wanted to share what I’ve been working on so that I can eventually live independently. Currently, I’m working on moving into my own place. As of now, I don’t have any idea of when I’ll be moving in, but for now I’m continuing to work on my skills.

Some of the things I’m working on is budgeting, meal planning, and coming up with a chore schedule.

And while I’m still living in a group home, I’ve been working on independent living skills while living in the home. I do my own laundry, I clean up after myself, and I get to cook dinner once a week for everyone in the home.

While I’ll admit that I do get nervous about the thought of living on my own, I’m mostly very excited. Change can be unsettling, uncomfortable, and stressful, but it can also be very exciting. I know that I’ve come a long way, and I’ve made a lot of improvements, and while I still have some things to learn, I’m proud of the progress I have made.

I hope that I was able to inspire someone in this blog. And as always, never ever give up!

Teresa is in her early 20s and looking forward to blogging about her journey with newly diagnosed autism. Within the past few years, she’s had to rebuild her entire life from scratch and navigate everything very differently. She recently had the opportunity to job shadow at different locations and has been inspired to attend college and one day work with children. Teresa is eager for this new chapter in her life and wants to inspire others with autism to never give up, despite whatever obstacles life may throw their way.
