Teresa is in her early 20s and looking forward to blogging about her journey with newly diagnosed autism. Within the past few years, she’s had to rebuild her entire life from scratch and navigate everything very differently. She recently had the opportunity to job shadow at different locations and has been inspired to attend college and one day work with children. Teresa is eager for this new chapter in her life and wants to inspire others with autism to never give up, despite whatever obstacles life may throw their way.

At the end of this month, I will be turning 26 on September 30th. In this blog, I wanted to share some of the things I learned at the age of 25 as well as what I’m looking forward to in the future. Here are some of the things I’ve learned:
I learned that it’s okay to ask for help if you need it and healing from things takes time. It might seem hard at the time but it’s not going to be like that forever, things will get better.
I also have been working hard on my independence which is something I have wanted for a long time.
Also, I learned that sometimes stepping out of your comfort zone is a good thing. Because of this, I got the chance to speak at an event this summer, which is something I normally wouldn’t do, but I’m glad that I did it. Additionally, I’ve been getting out more and being social and going to different events in my community.
Some things I’m looking forward to in the future is living on my own, possibly going to college, and having a job that I enjoy. I’d also be interested in advocating for people who might also struggle with the same things that I struggle with.
In closing, I’ve learned a lot this past year and I’m looking forward to the group year ahead of me. As always, thank you for reading and I will catch you in the next blog!
