Remembering My Mom on Her Birthday

Posted on

My mom passed away 4 years ago; August 4th was her birthday. She would’ve been 60 years old. In this blog, I want to honor her and share some things I admired about her.

My mom was very strong. One of the things I admired about her is that she raised my three older sisters and me all on her own. She provided for us and kept a roof over our heads. Even through challenges, she loved me and my sisters and always made sure we were cared for.

She was funny and had a contagious laugh. Her smile and laugh have stuck with me throughout these years.

She had a caring heart; she liked to help others. She would give the shirt off her back if it would help someone and make them happy.

She loved her family. She was a grandma and had five grandsons and loved them all equally, and she loved doing stuff for them.

She was also a really good cook, specifically a good baker. She made these really good orange crush cupcakes and also made an amazing pineapple upside-down cake. She also made amazing homemade stuffing for Thanksgiving.

With all of this said, my mom wasn’t perfect. Not every moment was rainbows and butterflies, but she loved me, and my sisters and I loved her. I miss her, and there’s not a day that I don’t think about her. But I will always cherish these memories and hold on to them.

As always, I hope you enjoyed this blog, and I’ll see you in the next one!

Teresa is in her early 20s and looking forward to blogging about her journey with newly diagnosed autism. Within the past few years, she’s had to rebuild her entire life from scratch and navigate everything very differently. She recently had the opportunity to job shadow at different locations and has been inspired to attend college and one day work with children. Teresa is eager for this new chapter in her life and wants to inspire others with autism to never give up, despite whatever obstacles life may throw their way.
