My Group's Website

Posted on

Hello and welcome to the month of December. I hope everyone enjoys their holidays. This month’s blog post will be about my group and their website. Now before I write my post, I want to tell you what it is first. Several months ago, one of the facilitators of my group decided to come up with a website called OASIS so we can better communicate and improve the group. The initials stand for Orbital Awareness Social Interactive Source. It’s kind of like Facebook but it’s designed only for the group and the facilitator has control over it. I should mention that the site is private. Some of the group members have their blogs on there because they want to share them with others. Now back to the subject.

Earlier in spring of this year, my group was trying to figure out how they could Spectrum Friends so, OASIS was created. It was designed to make the group a little better in the sense that events and meetings are planned out accordingly. Also to get the group to reach out to each other for social outings. Say if a member decides they want to invite others to an event in their area or host an event, they can go to the events section on the site and post it. The facilitator posts when the meetings take place. It’s a little complicated to explain by just discussing it through a blog post. The one thing about it that I am happy about is that it’s a site where Spectrum Friends can feel comfortable on. They can discuss whatever is on their minds. Some like to talk about things like crafting and stuff. I have one friend who loves to craft so if I wanted to talk about crafting with her, I could go on there and do so. I will say this, that the site is very organized which is good because it makes it a lot easier to use and it’s also much safer to be on. Planning events seem a little easier to put together now that this site exists. I can attend meetings through the site because the zoom link gets posted every month now.

To conclude my post, I would like to say a little about my group if I haven’t already. Spectrum Friends is a group where we make friends and go out for social outings. In the past we went to different places close to home and far from the area. Nowadays, they have to be within the area and budget friendly. In the past the group didn’t have a website to talk on. Most times we communicated solely through email. I love the site because I feel like I am closer with the group. There is more of a connection than just through email. You don’t have to be on there every day but if it’s just a hello that’s okay. Now I want to finish off by saying thank you for letting me share my post with you guys and have a good month!
