Going to the Barber Shop Social Story

Sometimes I might go to a barber shop. I should make an appointment ahead of time.

A barber is someone who cuts hair. They also cut hair on a person’s face, like beards and mustaches.

When I go to the barber, I will check in at the desk.

I will wait until the barber tells me it is my turn.

I will sit still in a comfy chair. The barber will put a big bib over me so I don’t get dirty.

I can tell the barber if I want my hair or facial hair to have a certain style. I may just want it shaved off.

The barber might use combs, brushes, and soaps to smooth out my hair.

Sometimes the barber will use an electric razor. This will buzz and vibrate against my skin. This does not hurt.

Sometimes the barber will use a straight-edge razor to cut hair. This might look like a knife, but it does not hurt.

If the barber uses a straight-edge razor, they will put a special cream on my face. This will help protect it.

If I feel scared or overwhelmed, I can ask to take a break.

When the barber is done, I will pay for my haircut at the desk.
