The Summer Academy is a ten-day program for high school students who are deaf or hard of hearing and preparing for entry into post-secondary education leading to competitive integrated employment.
Held in-person at Penn State’s (PSU) University Park Campus in State College, PA, the program is available to students who are OVR customers and who are deaf or hard of hearing and enrolled in grades 10 through 12 in Pennsylvania.
The program is offered by the PA Department of Labor & Industry, Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR), in partnership with the PA Department of Labor and Industry’s Office for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ODHH), the PA Department of Education, Bureau of Special Education’s Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network (PaTTAN) and the Pennsylvania State University (PSU).
The program runs for ten days from Sunday, July 16, 2023, to Wednesday, July 26, 2023, and will cover self-advocacy skills in college, trade school, and the workplace, social and emotional skills, career planning, college support services, and communication access options. In addition, this summer program is fully accessible, with sign language interpreters and CART available for all classes and many extracurricular activities. Additional or different individual accommodations will be considered based on your answers in the application below. Also, students will stay in a dormitory room at Penn State with a roommate of the same gender and age range.
Students will be notified of their acceptance by May 15, 2023
