About this event
Disabled Babes Book Club is a virtual book club for disabled folks & books with disabled representation! They meet on the 2nd Monday of each month @ 6:30PM-8:00PM EST.
You must email them to receive the link to join them at this meeting. Even if you register/RSVP for this meeting, you must still email them to receive the link. Please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line “DBBC Zoom Link”.
This group is for folks who are disabled (self-defined) and anyone who is navigating living outside of the spectrum of neurotypical and/or able-bodied norms. Also, they’re strong believers that everyone is a babe- thus their book club is open to folks of all genders.
They honor that every individual is their own expert and every individual has the right to make their own choices including how they explain, understand, address, and describe their lived experience, mental/physical health, and identities.
Join them for a group discussion of Disabled Babes Book Club’s current book choice. Over the course of up to three months, they will be reading one book and participating in open discussions about it during their monthly meetings. They’ll be releasing a schedule so you’ll know exactly what will be discussed at each meeting. Attendance is not mandatory- come as you are whenever you want!
This book club is co-facilitated by Beck DeTrempe (they/them) and Alex Candage (ze/zir), disabled friends who are passionate about disabled representation and creating intentional spaces for disabled folks.
If you are unable to purchase the book they’re reading, please contact Beck DeTrempe to discuss scholarship opportunities. Limited scholarships are available and are first come, however, they set money aside for this and really want money to not be a barrier. Please let Beck know if you could use help purchasing a book.
They love their allies, but this space is not an ally space. This group will stay closed to its identity-specific patrons only. They will be posting their book recommendations, and encourage you to read them on your own if you’re looking for books with more disability representation.
ASL Interpreters are available by request. Please email them at email@example.com to request ASL Interpretation at least two weeks prior to the meeting date. If you make a request under two weeks, they will do their best to accommodate you, but can not guarantee an interpreter will be available.
For questions, accessibility needs, or book scholarships please contact Beck DeTrempe at firstname.lastname@example.org
