I was diagnosed at a young age and went through the special education system in public schools. Family is incredibly important to me as I grew up in a large supportive family. I enjoy being outside in nature and arts and crafts.

I was asked what would be my ideal way to celebrate the holidays and I was surprised to find that I really am not sure! I know I’ve had many experiences with a stressful holiday: Christmas but I’ve spent less time thinking about what would make me feel content, positive, and more joyful. I really need to think about this since I will be spending Christmas by myself this year.
I know I enjoy music, especially current Christmas music. I like to hear the most up-to-date selection of music too. I’m trying to stay current and not fall behind the times. I don’t enjoy a lot of swearing or foul language and I have a hard understanding rap music and opera too.
I really don’t have any favorite Christmas movies. In fact I don’t have a favorite movie at all. I do however enjoy some of the various versions of A Christmas Carol though as I I like the message and meaning it conveys.
Going back to my original thought about planning my Christmas day. I kind of wish I could celebrate it “Big Bang Theory” style with my friends, enjoying Christmas movies and eating great food together. My friends have families of their own and they have plans for this coming Christmas though. So what can I do by myself? I’m thinking maybe go out to eat at a restaurant, listen to music, watch Christmas movies, and enjoy peaceful moments with my two cats.
This year I have so much to be grateful for. I have a great place to live, a good job, friends, and family. I’m healthy and my mental health is good too. I can choose what I want to do when I want to do it and I relish my independence.
Have you thought about how you want to spend this holiday season? What makes you happy? Wishing everyone the best holiday season and a great start to the new year!
