Autism Awareness Month: What Being Autistic Means to Me

Posted on

Hello everyone! My blog for the month of April is about what being autistic means to me and how it feels to be a part of that community. Well, I am just going to start off by saying that I am someone who has lived with autism her whole life. There are some good things about being autistic that I think people should know about. I know it is going to sound like I am repeating some of the things I said about autism in one of my earlier blog posts, but this one is different.

Some good things about me being autistic is that I am unique in my own way. I can make other people laugh and carry on a conversation with others. I have skills that some people might not have, like organization skills. I like to keep everything in a clean and organized manner and also follow a routine every day. When things are out of order it throws me off, whether it’s my schedule or things looking disorganized. On a lighter note, I am very smart, and I am somewhat outgoing. This is who I am, and I am proud of being part of the autism community. I have a good group of friends that I connect with through emails and Facebook. During a meeting back in February, we were all talking about starting a website that is similar to Facebook but only for members of our group to either connect or to get together to do things with. We will hopefully know soon when that will happen.

To conclude my post, I would like to say that having autism is kind of a unique thing, almost like it makes you feel special. I want other people in the autism community to know that just because you have autism, it doesn’t make you different, it just makes you unique in your own way. That’s the lesson I want people to take to heart. Thank you for letting me share my experience with you guys. Have a good day everyone.
